A San Diego Weekend Getaway

Me and a friend decided to take a last minute weekend trip down to San Diego. California living definitely has its perks. Your next adventure is just a couple of hours away. From Los Angeles to downtown San Diego on a Friday night it only took us 2 hours to get there.

San Diego is such a charming city. Tons of things to do and go see. During this trip we decided to stay in the Gaslamp quarter. We made it a real girls weekend and enjoyed ourselves every second of the trip. First night we got in kind of late so we decided to grab pizza from around the corner and stay in at the hotel to plan out our next two days.Saturday morning started out early and we had looked up a good breakfast place the night before. It was a cute cafe downtown just a couple block from the hotel where we were staying. I can’t say that the mimosa flights didn’t lure me there. The Cafe we went to is called Cafe 21 and it is a super cute place with a lot of different food choices. They have both outside and inside seating and wasn’t too crowded for being a Saturday morning. After breakfast we decided to walk around the area and explore for a bit. There were tons o shops and malls within walking distance. The architecture of the buildings reminded me of Europe a lot. Something that Los Angeles definitely lack of. We even checked out how much it costed to live here and looked up some apartments online. The apartments in San Diego look so nice and is totally what I would go for. You can check out some of the best places to live in San Diego here.

Honestly, most of the weekend was spent drinking drinks and eating good food. Exploring the Gaslamp Quarter and just hanging out with m girl friend. We tried out the nightlife vaguely but felt like it wasn’t really our cup of tea. Saturday night we grabbed thai food at one of the few food places that actually was still serving food after 12am and went back to the hotel room to rest up for the next day. On our ride back home to Los Angeles we stopped by La Jolla to go see the sea lions and grab some gelato. It was a great stop to take on the way. La Jolla is only about 20 minutes away from Downtown San Diego and also such a nice getaway place. I would love to stay there some time! 

Taste the world with S.Pellegrino

 I haven’t been cooking for a while and been kind of bound to takeout food. So, I recently decided to go back and do some cooking. So, I wanted to share my Taste of the world recipe together with S.Pellegrino with you. From spending my past years being a student on a strict budget I learned how to not only save money but also perfect the few dishes I could live with eating several times a week. Thanks to my Asian heritage I also learned a lot of tricks and tips to cooking.

Pad Thai is a favorite for many people. And it is surprisingly easy to make. Now, keep in mind that there isn’t really a right or wrong way to make it. In Thailand different parts of the country makes it in different ways. I prefer to not make it too saucy and top it off with crushed peanuts and some lime.

You need just a few ingredients. Pad Thai Noodles. Oyster Sauce. Sauté Sauce. Salt, pepper and the meat of your choice. I also like to add cabbage into my Pad Thai. You boil the noodles soft before you free it in a pan together with the meat, the sauces and the veggies. And it only takes about 30 minutes from start to finish including cleaning up. I always use the whole package of noodles and end up having about 8 meals prepared.

Why Mochi should be your new addiction

Mochi – You have probably seen or heard about it. But do you know what it actually is? Mochi is a Japanese dessert, or treat if you will, that contains of a rice cake filled with ice cream. The name mochi itself comes from the rice cake that contains the ice cream filling. In Japanese culture mochi plays a big role and it is more than just a dessert. The treat is a sign of big fortune and also a huge part of the new years celebrations in Japan. Mochi has later become popular around the world as the delicious treat that it is. I mean who doesn’t love ice cream?

My/Mo MochiI picked up a couple of flavors of the My/Mo mochi at my local grocery store. You can find your local My/Mo Mochi retailer here. It comes in 7 delicious flavors. Double Chocolate. Green Tea. Cookies and Creams. Ripe Strawberry. Sweet Mango. Mint Chocolate Chip and Vanilla Bean. I decided to pick up Ripe Strawberry and Sweet Mango as I have had the Double Chocolate before and absolutely loved it. But was feeling something fruity at the time!

My/Mo Mochi For being of Asian heritage, mochi is quite new for me and I only discovered it a couple of years ago. There is something sensational about being able to pick up this rice cake. And to find it to be filled with ice cream when you bite into it. It tastes the best if you let it rest for a couple of minutes before eating so the ice cream inside gets a little bit soft. It’s a ooey-gooey feeling of deliciousness. If you haven’t tried Mochi before – you’re welcome. And if you have. What flavor is your favorite?

Five appetizers to pair with Chardonnay

Food has always been a huge part of my life. Ever since I can remember I used to be in the kitchen with my mom. And by the age of 8, I was cooking my own meals. My parents were both working parents and at a young age they decided that I could stay at home by myself. My cooking consisted mostly of noodle soups and pasta dishes until, I got older and moved away from home. Except from the cooking classes we had in school, I didn’t really try things myself. So finally at the age of 16 I started to explore food. And discovered that I was quite good at it. Cooking school was actually one of the choices I considered but I never took that path.

Now, instead I enjoy cooking and baking for friends and family whenever I have time. I wish I had a boyfriend just for the joy of couples dinners and inviting people over on a Sunday night! But, until then I will enjoy the food with a glass of Chardonnay. Therefore, I have gathered some of my favorite, easy to make, appetizers that pairs great with Chardonnay. My Chardonnay of choice is Morning Fog by Wente. It has an amazing crips flavor to it.

Peach and Ricotta Crostini

Usually I would make this during fig season and use figs instead. But Chardonnay pairs amazingly with peaches all together so I made a twist on this crostini and topped it with peaches instead of figs. This little snack is super easy to make. Take crostini or toasted baguettes. Top off with ricotta cheese, some peaches and drizzle some honey on top. Its crunchy. Its sweet. And the ricotta cheese balances it out perfectly. Pairing this with a crips and fresh Chardonnay like the Wente Morning Fog is perfect.

Avocado and tuna tapas

Avocados is something we are anything but short of here in California. And, there are more to it than just making guac. Simple, fast and tasty. That three words that would describe this little dish. If you’re serving it to several people, an easy way to do it is to slice up the avocados into pieces and serve the tuna mixture on top or as a dip. The mixture is so simple to make. All you need to do is stir some canned tuna, mayo, red bell pepper, green onions and seasoning. You can leave it in the fridge for later or serve it right away.

Baked ham and cheese rollups

Not gonna lie, this was the first time I have made these. And also my first experience ever using store bought ready to bake crescent dough. Although the looks aren’t the best on these. They still taste amazing! and you know what they say. There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure. For next time hopefully these little rolls will look better and still taste amazing! You could literally stuff them with anything but I went with the simple ham and cheese stuffing.

Seared tuna with dragonfruit

This was my favorite dish to make. Not only because it was my first time ever cooking a tuna steak. But also because it included something I love – dragonfruit. So many people always say that its tasteless and a boring fruit. But if you get the right, one its sweet and juicy. I seared the tuna and seasoned it with some cayenne pepper. The spicy flavored amazingly with the sweet fruit and also, its a really beautiful price to have on the table. You can serve the tuna steak as it is with the dragonfruit on the side. Or you can make a salad type of dish and serve it inside of the colorful fruit shell.

There are probably dozens of other appetizers that you can make and pair with Chardonnay. This is just a collections of a few of my favorite ones. Its easy tot how together a cheese plate for wine night. But if you really want to impress your friends and make some tasty items that doesn’t take up a lot of time I daintily thing you should try some of these dishes. My must-have workout bag and fitness items

As you all know I have been on the fitness path for quite some time now. I have been adjusting my diet and added more exercising to my daily routine. Keeping active has really made me a happier person and I have learned a whole lot about myself. Therefore, I wanted to share some of my favorite and must have fitness items with you! These things haven’t just made it easier for me, but also happier. And, they have also given me motivation and encouragement to continue on the path to a healthier lifestyle.

Ultracor Leggings

These leggings are hands down the best things I have ever worn. The almost $200 price tag do make them justice. It feels like I am wearing a second skin and no matter what activity I am doing, these will stay in place, suck everything in, but not feel like they’re tight. Thus far I own 4 Ultracor leggings and they are the best!


I cannot rave enough about my Fitbit. Ever since I bought my first one about a year and a half ago I have been constantly obsessed. I recently upgraded my Fitbit Charge to a Fitbit Charge 2 and I got even more obsessed. They have different variants for different needs. I like the Charge 2 because it measures my hertrate and therefore also how much sleep and exercise I get each day. It even recognizes what kind of exercising I do.

SWB Booty Bands

Okay, so I am all about this booty workouts this year and these bands are SOOOO good for you! They will just give you that extra resistance for the otherwise easy exercises and help out on the way. I randomly came across this Aussie girl. Not only is she super fit and look great, but she makes these booty bands! Seeing all the photos and videos people and posted with them made me want them. I now have 3 of these on their way to me. Im upgrading from my old bands!!

Swell water bottle

It keeps it cool and it keeps it fresh for hours! If there is one thing I hate when working out, its warm water. It should be cold and refreshing. Nowadays I don’t use anything else but Swell bottles. Both inside and outside of the gym.

4 Things I have learned from Jenny Craig

Five weeks have now passed since I started my journey on Jenny Craig. I decided that I was going to dedicate myself to the meal plan 6 times a day, 7 days a week for 10 weeks. I’m halfway through and honestly, I was starting to have mixed feelings at this point. As for my results, I have lost almost 7 pounds and about 5 inches around my body*. People around me are starting to notice my weight loss and are commenting on it in an encouraging way.  Isn’t that great?! I also found myself a point where I want to eat what my friends and people around me are eating. Even though I absolutely love this weight loss program, I miss going out for drinks and dinner with friends as often as I used to go out. . Being on a diet is hard, even if you like it.

Temptations are everywhere, constantly. It can just be something small like a friend asking if you want something from Starbucks. The key for me has been to think about the end result. And to not let myself down. Being able to meet up with my Jenny Craig consultant every week has really kept me from disappointing myself, and her too. I want to show her that I can do this because she has so much faith in me and is always there for me in any given situation.

I don’t have to work out like crazy to lose pounds.

Let’s be real for a second. I have been terrible at going to the gym these past few weeks. Even if I do keep myself active daily, I still love to go to the gym. But going at nights are hard for me, and with school, I have so much to do once I finally get home. I do believe that doing more cardio would help my weight loss even more, sure. But I don’t necessarily have to and that makes me feel less pressured about actually losing the weight.

Being on a diet doesn’t have to be boring.

Often people relate diets to boring food. People often think it’s all about eating salads and smoothies. Some people think of it as you’re not eating real food and trying to survive on low calorie shakes and vegetables that contain barely any calories. This is not the case with the Jenny Craig program. It’s not a diet, but a lifestyle change, as I don’t have to eliminate any food groups, and I am eating a steady 1,200 calories every day of REAL FOOD, just in smaller portions than I used to eat.  And I  even get a treat or snack every night! Which brings me to my next point.

Just because you’re on a diet, it doesn’t mean you can’t have anything sweet.

We all get a sweet tooth every now and then. Or we just want something crunchy and salty to snack on. With Jenny Craig, I actually get to eat one of either, every night! One day it might be a cookie while another day I get to eat a Chocolate Lava Cake.

My mixed feelings about being on the program have been replaced by feelings of satisfaction. I know that I can do it, because I’m feeling healthier and can feel my willpower getting stronger and more resistant to those temptations that will only distract me from my goal of feeling good about myself. So far Jenny Craig has been amazing for me. The results are just great and I love how encouraging everyone around me are about it. They see how much happier I am and that I feel great.

My love for Beauty, Fashion, Design and Wine

I have always been a multi-tasker. My head is constantly in 10 different places. There is no wonder to why I have such a broad range of interests. Although I don’t have favorites (yes, Im weird, I know), I do know what I like. My interests for interior design started first when I moved away from home at 16. I finally had a chance to kind of create my own space. I have always been one to enjoy change and adventure. But Im also the kind of person who would rather stay at home on a Friday night with a bottle of Wente wine and watchNetflix.

Moving to the US was definitely the biggest milestone when it came to me finally becoming a grown up. I was completely on my own without anyone here to help me. I lived the typical student life where you shared a 2 bedroom apartment with 3-4 other people. And of course we would all work hard in school. But play harder going out. Eventually, I found that I actually liked to stay in with a glass of wine, rather than going out. And, so of course, the best way for me to like being home was to create a space that I love.

My room has drastically changed its looks throughout the years. But now is when I feel like I actually know what I want it to look like. Its a mix of Scandinavian minimalist and modern rustic. I have incorporated coppers and DIY:ed marble shelves. But also included big chunky wooden pieces and metals. Fashion and beauty accents are added throughout the room. I have been fortunate enough to being able to style it the way I wanted over time. And with patience finding some key items to make it all come together. Even if it is on the right track, I am far from done decorating. But, it is good enough for me to wanting to be here all the time.

By the way, white wines are my jam.

The most drastic change I made was a couple weeks ago when I got my new bed. I cleared out of almost all of my IKEA furnitures and decided to start from scratch. I realized, that with patience, it didn’t have to cost a lot to create my dream space. Spending a weekend doing DIYs transforming old boring furnitures and throwing out the old felt really good. And I really couldn’t have done it all without sipping on my wine. I found a new love for stores I had never been to before and find myself there two-three times a week just to pan out for whats new in store. Not that I need anything in particular. But, because I want to see if there is anything I could add.

I think that we all have a turning point in our lives when we become grown up. And we start to figure out what we actually want. Career wise, I am still a lost soul. If I will stay in this home for a longer period, that I do not know. But at least I know what to strive for once the time comes to move again. This has been my home for over a year now and I am finally starting to grow into it.

As I have mentioned in earlier posts, even though I am extremely busy and always on the go, maintaining my diet is my highest priority right now. It has not been easy at all. And quite frankly, I stopped cooking meals at home and ended up eating takeout food several times a day. It was definitely time for a drastic change. Not only for my body but also for my mind. The results of stress made me fall out of my eating schedules. It was easy to forget to eat, and I’d sometimes skip lunch, and not eat until I got home at night. That habit is what kills your metabolism even though you don’t eat very much. It is what killed my metabolism and made my body store fat rather than burning it.

I came to realize that exercising 5 days a week didn’t change anything if I didn’t eat healthfully. So, I was approached by Jenny Craig, a tailored program designed to provide structure and support to help members lose weight and learn how to keep it off. It’s not the type of program that will tell you how many calories you can eat or sets you strictly on shakes and soups. It’s a well-designed program which provides you real food that actually makes you want to eat. And you’ll lose weight as well. I met with my personal consultant Laura to talk about how I feel about my body and my view on food. And also, why I felt like I needed to do this. It felt great to have a personal contact that not only can help me with my goals but also can support me mentally and physically. My main goal right now is to eat often but in the right portions. I need to get my metabolism in shape which might take a while but I have to start somewhere. So far, I have only been on Jenny Craig for a week and I have already lost 1.2 pounds*! My biggest struggle at first was eating at the right times. I watched the clock a bit too much at first, but now have the hang of it and am getting used to eating so often! What I liked the most is that I received a weekly meal schedule including 3 meals and 3 snacks per day. Each day was structured with breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner and a snack. And Jenny Craig provides the meals and snacks. The only thing you have to buy at the grocery store is fruit and veggies. *Members following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs. per week. I received promotional consideration.

Some of the food that I have eaten on the program is Margherita pizza, chicken tacos, cheesy broccoli and cinnamon buns. The food is developed by more than 40 professional chefs and it’s really good, which makes you want to stay on the program. My daily calorie intake is about 1,200 calories, but so far, I have never felt hungry. But, I do definitely get the late-night cravings if I am up late studying. The solution for me is the unlimited free foods list. Not only do you get a food schedule, but you also get a grocery list. On that list, you have some unlimited foods, which you can pretty much eat as much as you want from. But of course, don’t overdo it.

I have experienced some energy dips at night and have been sleeping a lot more during the week than I usually do. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. But, it does create some stressful situations when I need to get studying done those nights. Since my calorie intake is very low compared to what I’m used to taking in, my body is probably just adjusting right now. I will keep you updated on this in my next post.

As for week 2, my goal is to start exercising with the program and keep more active while maintaining normal energy levels. So, hopefully my body is now starting to get adjusted to the program.
