Im trying out Jenny Craig!

As I have mentioned in earlier posts, even though I am extremely busy and always on the go, maintaining my diet is my highest priority right now. It has not been easy at all. And quite frankly, I stopped cooking meals at home and ended up eating takeout food several times a day. It was definitely time for a drastic change. Not only for my body but also for my mind. The results of stress made me fall out of my eating schedules. It was easy to forget to eat, and I’d sometimes skip lunch, and not eat until I got home at night. That habit is what kills your metabolism even though you don’t eat very much. It is what killed my metabolism and made my body store fat rather than burning it.

I came to realize that exercising 5 days a week didn’t change anything if I didn’t eat healthfully. So, I was approached by Jenny Craig, a tailored program designed to provide structure and support to help members lose weight and learn how to keep it off. It’s not the type of program that will tell you how many calories you can eat or sets you strictly on shakes and soups. It’s a well-designed program which provides you real food that actually makes you want to eat. And you’ll lose weight as well. I met with my personal consultant Laura to talk about how I feel about my body and my view on food. And also, why I felt like I needed to do this. It felt great to have a personal contact that not only can help me with my goals but also can support me mentally and physically. My center is open every day and if I have any questions I can just call her.

My main goal right now is to eat often but in the right portions. I need to get my metabolism in shape which might take a while but I have to start somewhere. So far, I have only been on Jenny Craig for a week and I have already lost 1.2 pounds*! My biggest struggle at first was eating at the right times. I watched the clock a bit too much at first, but now have the hang of it and am getting used to eating so often! What I liked the most is that I received a weekly meal schedule including 3 meals and 3 snacks per day. Each day was structured with breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner and a snack. And Jenny Craig provides the meals and snacks. The only thing you have to buy at the grocery store is fruit and veggies. *Members following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs. per week. I received promotional consideration.

Some of the food that I have eaten on the program is Margherita pizza, chicken tacos, cheesy broccoli and cinnamon buns. The food is developed by more than 40 professional chefs and it’s really good, which makes you want to stay on the program. My daily calorie intake is about 1,200 calories, but so far, I have never felt hungry. But, I do definitely get the late-night cravings if I am up late studying. The solution for me is the unlimited free foods list. Not only do you get a food schedule, but you also get a grocery list. On that list, you have some unlimited foods, which you can pretty much eat as much as you want from. But of course, don’t overdo it.

I have experienced some energy dips at night and have been sleeping a lot more during the week than I usually do. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. But, it does create some stressful situations when I need to get studying done those nights. Since my calorie intake is very low compared to what I’m used to taking in, my body is probably just adjusting right now. I will keep you updated on this in my next post.

As for week 2, my goal is to start exercising with the program and keep more active while maintaining normal energy levels. So, hopefully my body is now starting to get adjusted to the program.

I know how hard it is to count calories and have good, healthy food available to eat when you are hungry so this is a great way to eat right. 1,200 calories is so low to me and I don’t know if I could survive, but I know you will continue to make great progress.   9. I actually hate eating out, because never found american food very healthy. But because my husband is a big fan of american food, we go out on the weekend to get dinner or breakfast somewhere. The huge portions of food always creep me out. Haha. I also think that I gained some fat, since I moved here 3 years ago. LOL and excersise not really helping me. I have to try this service and see if it is better option specially when you are hungry.

  11. I’ve never tried Jenny Craig before but I so feel you on having a busy on the go life style and how it can be really hard to eat properly and at the right times. I often skip lunch and get shake in between then and dinner. I’m definitely interested in staying posted on how this journey is going for you! Something that I should consider as well!

  15. Good for you for taking action. I heard about Jenny Craig and lots of people I know have had amazing results. It takes time to adjust to any change but after few weeks you would get used to the smaller portion and smaller meals. Keep it up, can’t wait to read about your results.

  16. I’ve always heard wonderful things about this diet. I feel diets are so important sometimes you just need to change the ways you are eating and it can develop into a healthier you. I should really look in this diet plan. The meals also look so good. I seriously would love to try those tacos in the corner. haha.

I often eat at odd hours because being a mom you really don’t have time to sit and eat when there is all these activities going on when your kids are eating. So I think for me, the eating at the right time is def a key. I would love to see your results!!

  19. I have seen the Jenny Craig all over and I must said everything I have read is been so good and positive that I would love to try it. Eating healthy is always so important specially at home mixed with the right exercises weekly. Love the idea that this program also provides the snacks and not only the main meals.   21. I completely understand how you feel, I often find it hard to schedule proper meals. And exercising solely does not help reduce weight, your diet is so important. It’s so impressive that the program has three meals and three snacks all at 1200 calories, which is such the ideal calorie count for weight loss. The meals look so delicious and that’s amazing that you’ve already lost weight. The program sounds so wonderful, I really wish they had it in Singapore too.   24. I hear a lot about the Jenny Craig before. My friend tried it for a while and it worked for her. I think that keeping up with exercises and following the program correctly, you will get optimal results.

  27. Totally right babe you can do all the exercising in the world and if you don’t eat healthy you can actually put on weight! And it will certainly be hard to maintain or lose.
    In this day and age when we’re all so busy having the food prepared for you is the ultimate luxury,

  28. I tried out Jenny Craig a while ago and loved it. The food was more than enough, I sometimes couldn’t get through it all. It was also so tasty and I looked forward to see what was next on the menu! I loved it

  30. How long are going to be in this program? I’m dying to see the difference in a month! I always walk past many Jenny Craig offices and I always wanted to try it.   33. I suppose what they say about “20% is about how much you exercise and 80% is about your diet” when it comes to staying in shape is true. I’m really a bad “eater” as I just as you before eat when I get home late at night and sometimes even forget eating at all, just to find myself having heaps of food at midnight. But I think I’ve gotten a better at that lately. And this Jenny Craig diet actually allows you to eat real food so I’d love to give it a try! 🙂
